Michael is a tech writer, first adopter, documentary filmmaker, musician, and libertarian talk radio host on The Freedom Feens and Michael Dean After Dark. Many years ago he was in a band on Warner Brothers called Bomb. He lives in Wyoming and loves cats.
Michael was on the team that released FreeSpeechMe, the first-ever user-friendly software for viewing Dot-Bit websites.
Michael W. Dean is available for interviews with the media. He has a quality microphone and preamp, and sounds very good over Skype.
Michael also has a Comrex Bric-Link unit, so if you’re a radio or TV outlet, he can connect to you via Comrex and sound like he’s right there in your studio.

I listened to two interviews of Michael, one on Corbett Report and the other Gnostic Media. Pretty much a noob to the whole bitcoin / namecoin scene.
Former sw / developer doing IT stuff in a rural area now. Longtime Linux advocate.
Questions:
Can I buy namecoins on btc-e exchange with a Visa (prepaid) “gift card”?
I need a NMC wallet of some kind to provide a transfer address when I buy the NMC right?
Dot bit registration and use as a DNS replacement is currently only supported using the Windows NMC wallet right?
Can I use a NMC wallet on OpenSuSE to receive NMC purchased on btc-e, then transfer / reference them in a Windows NMC wallet under Windows 7?
I installed the OpenSuSE wallet from the namecoin.info website using their “1 click install” but I don’t see it in my list of apps, nor is there a man page or namecoin binary in my path. No errors were displayed. So I opened a root terminal and ran the manual install process, again no errors and no wallet I could find.
I can pick a different linux distro if necessary if that’s the issue, but I don’t really want to use a Windows as a primary wallet if that can be avoided.
So when you get a chance to reply I’d really appreciate some answers to above or a pointer to documentation that addresses these questions.
I’m excited to get into this and setup some web servers on a new .bit domain using namecoin!
Oh and nice work guys!
I’m gonna install the Windows wallet for NMC on all of the systems I service so my customers will be ready in case the SHTF.
I’ll do my part to educate / evangelize the people I know about this too.
Surprised S. Molyneux hasn’t jumped onboard with this as gun-ho as he is for btc and his background in sw / development.
>Can I buy namecoins on btc-e exchange with a Visa (prepaid) “gift card”?
dunno.
>I need a NMC wallet of some kind to provide a transfer address when I buy the NMC right?
yes. Get the installer from our install page.
>Dot bit registration and use as a DNS replacement is currently only supported using the Windows NMC wallet right?
there is something I used to be involved in called FreeSpeechMe that works with Linux and has it’s own blockchain download, will work without the wallet, only works with Firefox though. freespeechme.org
>Can I use a NMC wallet on OpenSuSE to receive NMC purchased on btc-e, then transfer / reference them in a Windows NMC wallet under Windows 7?
No. They should go directly into the wallet.

Dunno.

cool. Let us know if you get a domain registered and web site working and we’ll list it.

Hey thx for taking the time to respond.
Right now may be too early for me to adopt meowbit, but I’ll be keeping my eye on it for sure.
The reasons why it’s too early for me are:
1) I don’t want a windoze wallet
2) The FreeSpeechMe FF addOn is only for FF and according to your interviews crashes alot
I guess I could install a Windows wallet & try to get a few nmc shatoshi to toy around with, but I really shudder at the thought of keeping anything of financial value on Windows, plus that means I have to run windows more often. Fortunately the nmc blockchain isn’t terribly big yet, so it won’t take too long to dl.
I’m really on board with the concept tho, and want to spread the word about it. It won’t be easy around here, I’m in the sticks and n o b o d y here is anywhere close to understanding how to deal with an hierarchical file system let alone what DNS is and how it’s involved with the Internet.
